Tepic, Nayarit – The Riviera Nayarit region is set to become even more accessible to international travelers, thanks to a new flight route announced at Routes Americas 2025 in the Bahamas. Mexican airline Volaris will launch the first-ever international service from Tepic’s Riviera Nayarit International Airport (TPQ), connecting the popular vacation destination directly to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) starting July 16.
This exciting new service will operate three times a week, marking a significant achievement for the Tepic airport. Javier Garcia Bejos, director general at Aeropuertos Mexicanos, the airport’s operator, expressed his delight, calling it a “breakthrough.” He emphasized the route’s strategic importance for boosting both tourism and visits to friends and family.
The Riviera Nayarit has seen increasing interest from international visitors, and this new connection is expected to make travel even easier. The flights will also be a boon for Nayarit natives living in Southern California, providing a convenient way to travel home.
Volaris highlighted its commitment to serving the Mexican diaspora as a key factor in establishing the route. Eric Friedman, Volaris’ director of network planning and strategy, explained that the airline has become a major player in connecting the Mexican diaspora, and recognized the large Nayarit community in Southern California. He also emphasized the significant leisure travel opportunities this route unlocks for those wishing to experience the beauty of the Riviera Nayarit.
This new LAX service follows Volaris’ existing domestic route from TPQ to Tijuana. The launch is contingent on receiving final regulatory approvals, including clearance from the U.S. Transportation Security Administration.
