Safety First: Proactive Measures Keep Puerto Vallarta Moving Smoothly

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – Although Hurricane Priscilla passed offshore as a Category 2 storm, its lingering effects continue to impact Puerto Vallarta’s coastline. Strong waves reaching up to four meters are still striking areas near the Malecón, Olas Altas, and Los Muertos Beach. As conditions evolve, city authorities remain on alert, maintaining a steady focus on safety and stability across the bay.

Municipal agencies have responded swiftly with preventive road closures and coordinated action plans to reduce risks along affected areas. These timely efforts are ensuring that both residents and visitors remain safe while Puerto Vallarta continues to monitor and manage the powerful ocean swells.

This morning, the Puerto Vallarta Traffic and Road Safety Subdirectorate, under the leadership of Katia Vargas Guillén, moved quickly to establish preventive road closures at several key locations. These temporary adjustments are crucial for preventing accidents and protecting the community from the effects of the unusually high sea conditions.

In the Las Glorias area, strong waves caused seawater to surge through storm drains, spilling onto Francisco Medina Ascencio Avenue. To manage the rising water and ensure driver safety, the southbound to northbound side street was successfully closed. Municipal Traffic officers are stationed there, providing helpful assistance and directing vehicles around the affected area while the situation is addressed.

Similarly, in the city center, the intersection of Morelos and Corona streets is closed. This action prevents vehicles from accessing the Malecón, where the water level has noticeably risen. Traffic units continue diligent patrols to guarantee the safety of everyone – pedestrians and drivers – in the downtown area.

The agency is encouraging all citizens to cooperate by avoiding travel through these limited areas, following all posted signs, and staying informed via official communication channels. These prompt, preventative steps demonstrate the city’s focus on safeguarding all residents amid the current wave conditions.

Rapid Response to Infrastructure Challenges

The powerful waves from Hurricane Priscilla, along with a related infrastructure challenge, prompted SEAPAL Vallarta to activate immediate contingency protocols. Flooding was reported at two essential wastewater pumping stations – “El Raquet” on Camarones Beach and “El Tornillo” along Francisco Medina Ascencio Avenue – briefly halting their operations.

SEAPAL Vallarta’s response was swift and decisive. Technical teams were rapidly deployed to inspect, diagnose, and successfully restart the necessary pumping equipment, with a clear goal of restoring full function as quickly as possible. In addition to repairs, intensive cleanup operations are underway to minimize any environmental impact in the affected neighborhoods.

This rapid mobilization underscores SEAPAL Vallarta’s strong commitment to its citizens. By working continuously, SEAPAL is ensuring the continuity of sanitation services and upholding its promise to protect the environment, health, and beautiful image of Puerto Vallarta.
