Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – The Seventh Annual Dama Juana Raicilla Festival will return to Rio Cuale Island March 13–15, inviting residents and visitors to discover the history and flavor of Raicilla, often called “the grandfather of tequila.” The free event runs daily from 12:00 pm to 10:00 pm in front of the Vallarta Institute of Culture.

Raicilla is a distilled agave spirit produced in Jalisco using traditional methods passed down through generations. While it shares similarities with Tequila and Mezcal, Raicilla offers a unique profile shaped by the diverse geography of Jalisco.
Visitors will learn about the two primary varieties: La Raicilla de la Costa, which is crafted from agave grown along the rocky western coastline, and La Raicilla de la Sierra, which utilizes plants cultivated in the cooler, high-altitude mountain ranges. Each offers unique aromas and flavors shaped by local terrain and time-honored production methods.
The Cuale Cultural Center Esplanade will feature an expansive expo-sale where eighteen distinct brands will showcase their finest selections. Beyond simple tastings, the event serves as an educational hub. Master raicilleros will lead insightful discussions about their work, while live demonstrations will illuminate the intricate, traditional distillation process that turns raw agave into a sophisticated spirit.
As guests wander through the island venue, the experience expands into a full cultural showcase. Modern mixology demonstrations will highlight the spirit’s versatility in contemporary cocktails, complemented by a variety of local food vendors. The air will be filled with the sounds of live musical performances and the sight of folkloric ballet dancers, ensuring the atmosphere remains as lively as the heritage it celebrates.
Blending culture, craftsmanship, and entertainment, the 2026 Dama Juana Raicilla Festival offers a meaningful way to celebrate one of Jalisco’s most treasured spirits and the community that keeps its legacy alive.
