SIOP: Vallarta’s Insurgentes Street Bridge 98% Complete

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – According to the Jalisco Secretariat of Infrastructure and Public Works (SIOP), reconstruction of the Insurgentes Street bridge, which connected downtown Puerto Vallarta with the Romantic Zone but collapsed after the passage of Hurricane Nora, is 98% complete, and should be delivered before the Easter holidays.

Since construction has been progressing at a good pace, the agency predicts that this bridge will be fully operational at the end of March, or in the first week of April, before the two-week-long Semana Santa and Pascua vacation period, which this year starts in the second week of April.

It should be noted that one of the reasons for the current delay is the modification of the project, which was changed due to the demands of the merchants in the area, who asked for a pedestrian walkway under the bridge that will connect the Mercado Río Cuale (Puerto Vallarta’s Municipal Market) with ‘La Isla de Los Niños’.

With the construction of this passage, visitors will be able to access both shopping areas without having to cross the street in traffic as was the case in the past, which generated a constant risk of an accident occurring.

The island merchants are happy that the authorities took their recommendation into account, since now their businesses will not be isolated from the Cuale handicraft market.

The work on both the bridge and pedestrian walkway are now almost complete. In addition, the market containment barrier, which also suffered significant damage after the river flooded last August, has already been repaired.

The exact date of the opening of the Insurgentes Street Bridge is not yet known, but it should be ready before April 10th.
