Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico – Puerto Vallarta will soon welcome an additional air connection from the United States, as Southwest Airlines announced a new daily nonstop flight from San Diego International Airport beginning March 5, 2026. The route is part of the airline’s expansion following the opening of San Diego’s new Terminal 1 and marks Puerto Vallarta as the only Mexican destination included in this growth.
With this addition, Southwest will now operate seven direct routes to Puerto Vallarta, joining flights already available from Austin, Denver, Houston, Orange County, Phoenix, and Sacramento. The new San Diego connection will provide travelers in Southern California with an easy and convenient way to reach the Mexican Pacific.
Alongside its route expansion, Southwest recently introduced Getaways by Southwest, a new booking platform designed to make vacation planning simpler. Customers can now arrange flights, hotels, and ground transportation all in one place, with flexible payment options such as Apple Pay and PayPal.
Travelers booking through Getaways by Southwest will continue to enjoy the airline’s hallmark perks, including two free checked bags and opportunities to earn five times the usual Rapid Rewards points. These points can then be redeemed for future travel, creating added value for loyal customers.
