Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – In a dazzling display of solidarity and support, straight men are gearing up to dazzle audiences at this year’s “What A Drag.” This unique event sees participants transforming into mesmerizing drag personas, capturing the spirit and flair synonymous with drag performances. These courageous contenders will vie for the prestigious title of “Miss What A Drag,” showcasing grace, style, and humor.
Meet Simon Oliver, a reservations agent with Casa Cupola, who will transform into his Drag Persona, “Coco Nutt”
This week, let’s get acquainted with Simon Oliver, a Reservations Agent with Casa Cupola, proudly sponsored by the luxury hotel. Simon’s Fairy Drag Mother team includes the incredible singer/actor/dancer Gabe Arciniega and the beautiful, androgynous singer/dancer, World Champion pole dancer, and finalist on America’s Got Talent, Steven Retchless. Each contestant works with a Fairy Drag Mother to help them create their fabulous drag persona.
Simon shares his motivations for participating in What A Drag. “I am participating in WAD because I have known the founder of Casa Esperanza and Freda for almost 14 years and always thought it would be fun to take part in the event.”
Simon chose Puerto Vallarta as the stage for his transformation, sharing, “I chose Vallarta because I had never been to this side of the world, and a friend who has known me all my life lived here. So, I thought it would be a chance to spend some time here and learn some Spanish.”
Originally from Northern Ireland, Simon made the move to Vallarta full-time in July 2022, after frequent visits since 2010. Explaining his drag name, he says, “My Drag name started as ‘Coco’ because that was the name of my first pet as a child, I added the ‘Nutt’ because sometimes I can be a little crazy.”
Beyond being a celebration of diversity and inclusivity, “What A Drag” is also a crucial fundraising platform. All proceeds from this spectacular event will go toward supporting the Casa Esperanza Women’s Shelter. This organization is dedicated to offering assistance and refuge to women and children impacted by domestic violence.
