Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico – The historic Tequila Express is set to chug back to life, connecting two of Mexico’s most iconic destinations: the bustling metropolis of Guadalajara and the charming, agave-filled town of Tequila.
After years of modernization and remodeling, this nostalgic train is poised to offer a scenic journey through the picturesque Jalisco countryside, a UNESCO-protected landscape renowned for its blue agave fields. The Agavero landscape, spanning over 34,658 hectares, has been a vital part of the region’s cultural heritage since the 16th century, when the agave plant was first cultivated for tequila production.
The Tequila Express will not only transport passengers between these two cultural gems but also provide a unique glimpse into Mexico’s rich history. Guadalajara, the eighth-largest city in Mexico, boasts a wealth of historical attractions, including the UNESCO World Heritage site, Hospicio Cabañas, and the Guadalajara Cathedral.
Tequila, on the other hand, offers a more intimate experience with its colonial charm and picturesque streets. In this quaint town, travelers will find colorful buildings, artisanal shops, and must-see distilleries such as La Perseverancia, which has been crafting tequila since 1873.
Jalisco’s Secretariat of Tourism expects the relaunch of the Tequila Express to attract over 1 million tourists to Tequila annually, a significant increase from previous years. The train’s inaugural journey, timetables, duration, and ticket prices will be announced on the official website on September 23.
