The Hungry Critic Visits Daiquiri Dick’s on the beach

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – Over two decades ago, on Christmas night, I first set foot in the original Daiquiri Dick’s in Old Town. The cityscape has changed since, but I distinctly recall being smitten by the location and culinary delights that this enchanting eatery had to offer.

Fast forward to last year, when this revered establishment was acquired by Chris Diamond and Chef Wayne – veteran restaurateurs from Los Angeles – and our very own Javier Jimenez, a renowned local entrepreneur known for his ventures like Garbo’s Piano Bar and several other entertainment venues.

My initial encounter with the newly transformed Daiquiri Dick’s occurred just this week, and it didn’t disappoint. It took me a moment to absorb the extensive renovations. The establishment has clearly invested heavily in the tasteful refurbishment and furnishing.

On this occasion, we stopped by for some refreshing drinks and a light meal, so we bypassed the enticing appetizers and immediately ordered a Passion Fruit Mimosa. For those who know me, you won’t be surprised that we promptly ordered another.

My dining partner opted for the Garden Omelet ($175 pesos) — a blend of spinach, mushrooms, tomato, and cheddar cheese, served with potatoes and fresh fruit. I was drawn to an old favorite, the Roast Prime Rib Dip Sandwich ($285 pesos) that arrived with sautéed onions, Swiss cheese, a garlic thyme au jus, horseradish, and crispy French fries – it was just as delectable as I remembered. Notably, many patrons have appreciated the reintroduction of several classic selections from the original menu, like this and the much-loved Asian Chicken Salad ($265 pesos).

This is the ideal time to experience Daiquiri Dick’s when the crowds are thinner, allowing you to enjoy a serene brunch, lunch, or dinner in a comfortable air-conditioned setting with a spectacular view of the bay. This is my second five-star review this year, and I encourage you to discover this reimagined gem soon.
