Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico – Community members are invited to take part in a new beach cleanup effort this Saturday, July 26, at 7:30 am on Olas Altas and Camarones beaches. Your participation can help ensure the health of our invaluable marine environment.
The meeting point for this morning of community service is the iconic Puerto Vallarta sign on the Malecón. From there, volunteers will head to Olas Altas and Camarones beaches, working together to reduce the pollution that threatens our precious ocean and its diverse plant and animal life.
Often called the “lungs of the planet,” our oceans produce much of the oxygen we breathe. However, the continuous buildup of waste on beaches and in our waters poses a serious threat. Recognizing this, the Municipal Government, under the leadership of Mayor Luis Munguía, is actively promoting these cleanup initiatives. These efforts are championed by the Clean and Certified Beaches Building Commission, chaired by Councilman Christian Bravo Carbajal.
The dedication of our community has already yielded remarkable results. To date, 31 cleanup events have taken place, attracting over 5,000 volunteers who have collectively removed more than 147 tons of waste. These impressive figures reflect what can be accomplished when the government and the people work together.
Everyone is encouraged to lend a hand in this important work. Participants are advised to wear comfortable clothing, a hat, gloves, sunscreen, and bring water to stay hydrated. Protecting our beaches is a shared responsibility, and the active commitment of every individual is essential to creating a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable environment for everyone to enjoy.
