Top Talent Takes the Stage for 12th Annual What A Drag

Puerto Vallarta, México – For over a decade, Puerto Vallarta has witnessed a transformation that blends high-heeled hilarity with a profound social mission. On March 8th at 8 PM, Teatro Vallarta will host the 12th annual “What A Drag” fundraiser, an event that has evolved into one of the most anticipated spectacles in the region.

While the evening promises a whirlwind of sequins and comedy, the core purpose remains the support of Casa Esperanza, a vital shelter providing sanctuary for women and children escaping domestic violence.

The evening stands as the most significant annual fundraiser for Casa Esperanza, ensuring the shelter can continue its vital work through the organization Compassion for the Family. By providing a secure environment for survivors to heal, the event transforms a night of high-energy performance into a lifeline for those seeking a fresh start.

This year’s 12th anniversary further strengthens that commitment, as the community gathers to turn laughter and applause into tangible support for women and children reclaiming their futures.

Guiding the festivities as emcee is the celebrated Amy Armstrong, a performer with a career spanning three decades. Known for her rapid-fire wit and powerful vocals, Armstrong describes the theater’s atmosphere as electric. Year after year, she finds particular joy in witnessing the contestants’ transformations, noting that the courage and humor displayed on stage create an unmatched energy. Her role as the evening’s host ensures that the transition between competitive segments and professional performances remains seamless and engaging.

The entertainment lineup reinforces the talent that defines the local arts scene. Singer and producer Tonny Kenneth returns to the stage, continuing his long-standing advocacy for the shelter. His involvement reflects a commitment to using art as a vehicle for community action.

Joining him is Armando Chakám, a versatile performer from Guadalajara known for his work in musical theater and radio. Chakám, who is set to debut a tribute to the golden era of Las Vegas at The Palm Cabaret next month, brings a classic leading-man charisma to the evening’s roster.

Adding a modern, athletic flair to the night is Adán Carano, the creative force behind Surf Hula. His performance transcends traditional dance by merging surf culture with intricate hula-hoop artistry. Carano’s work is a celebration of movement and self-expression, offering a visual spectacle that represents the diverse artistic identity of Vallarta.

As the contestants prepare their dream-team transformations and the professional headliners rehearse their sets, the ultimate goal remains clear. When the curtain rises at Teatro Vallarta, the laughter and music will serve a greater good, turning a night of entertainment into a lifeline for families in need.

Don’t wait – tickets are on sale now! Secure your seats early for the best views in the house and help us make this a complete sellout. Every peso raised goes directly to Casa Esperanza, providing safety, shelter, and new beginnings for women and children escaping domestic violence. Last year alone, What A Drag helped fund more than half of Casa Esperanza’s annual budget – proof that laughter and compassion truly change lives.

Join the fun. Make this the best year yet!

When talent and heart share the spotlight, everybody wins. Stay tuned… it’s going to be a fabulous night.
