Tropicasa’s 2026 PV Homeowner Checklist: Vehicle Registration

Tropicasa’s 2026 PV Homeowner Checklist: Vehicle Registration

Puerto Vallarta, México – Tropicasa Realty is starting 2026 with a Homeowner’s Checklist that will keep your Puerto Vallarta home maintenance easy, organized and budget friendly. This week, they have another important item for your 2026 to-do list: the annual registration on your vehicle’s license plates in Jalisco.

If you own a car in Puerto Vallarta, you need to renew your license plates (which are called placas in Spanish) every year. The cost is based on the age of your vehicle and its accessed value, but it’s generally an affordable fee and if you are organized, you’ll qualify for a 5% discount for payments made early in 2026.

The easiest way to manage your Puerto Vallarta vehicle registration payment is to use the Jalisco government online portal, which is in Spanish but simple to navigate, and you’ll find all the information you need on your existing vehicle registration card.

1.Visit gobiernoenlinea1.jalisco.gob.mx/serviciosVehiculares/

  1. Enter your license plate number (placa)
  2. Enter the serial number (número de serie) which is listed on your Tarjeta de Circulación (registration card)
  3. Enter your full name as it appears on your registration card
  4. Enter the motor number (número motor). If your vehicle is American made, your motor number will not be an actual number, but rather “Hecho en U.S.A.
  5. The system will calculate the amount to pay and direct you to the payment screen or to print your payment form.

PRACTICAL TIPS

  • Make sure to type “U.S.A.” exactly as it appears, including the punctuation, in the appropriate field on the website.
  • Although there is an option to pay by credit card, error messages are common when trying to complete the payment. Instead, you can print the form from the website and pay within 3 days at most convenience stores or banks.

If you prefer not to use the online portal, you can pay in person at the UNIRSE building, located at Grandes Lagos 236, Fluvial Vallarta, Mon through Fri from 8:30 am to 2:30 pm. Please note that foreign credit cards are not accepted, so bring your Mexican bank card or cash in pesos.

Keeping your vehicle registration up to date is mandatory to have auto insurance, sell your vehicle and avoid fines, but it’s a simple task that you can easily check off as completed on your 2026 PV Homeowner’s Checklist.
