Mexico City – Uber has achieved a major legal victory in Mexico after more than a decade of court battles. The Thirteenth District Court in Administrative Matters granted the company a definitive suspension, preventing the National Guard from detaining drivers or impounding vehicles providing rides through the app at airports nationwide.
This decision marks a turning point for ride-hailing services, which for years operated under uncertainty when picking up or dropping off passengers in federal airport zones. With this ruling, Uber can now legally operate at more than 70 airports across the country without risk of detention while injunction proceedings continue.
Uber is optimistic that this temporary suspension will become permanent. The timing of this judicial resolution is especially favorable, coming just ahead of the 2026 World Cup, which Mexico will co-host. The company emphasized that this decision is a crucial step in preparing for the event, ensuring that the millions of international visitors expected for the major sporting competition have access to seamless and diverse transportation options. Improving mobility at airports is seen as key to presenting Mexico in the best possible light to the world.
In a public statement, Uber urged federal authorities to respect the court’s decision and called on the Congress of the Union to legislate on airport access for ride-hailing platforms. Clear national regulations, the company said, would strengthen Mexico’s tourism ecosystem and improve travel experiences for residents and visitors alike.
The company plans to closely follow the remaining legal process, anticipating a positive final ruling. Uber added that it remains committed to supporting measures that promote innovation, safety, and accessibility in transportation across the country.
