Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – The Puerto Vallarta Symphony Orchestra, also known as Orquesta Sinfonica Vallarta, will host a “Mostly Gershwin” concert featuring George Gershwin’s renowned piece, Rhapsody in Blue, along with other works by Gershwin and two Gymnopedies by Erik Satie. The performance will be led by Maestro Aquiles Morales, who will showcase his piano skills on a grand piano.
Scheduled for Sunday, February 11, 2024, at 7 pm at the American School of Puerto Vallarta, and Monday, February 12, 2024, at 7 pm at Salon Paraiso in Paradise Village, Nuevo Nayarit, the concert offers tickets priced at 350 pesos for adults and 150 pesos for students and children, available both at the door and online at iampv.org.
Aquiles Morales, in addition to his role as a concert pianist, has been conducting the Puerto Vallarta Symphony Orchestra since February 2023, guiding it to become a notable classical music ensemble within the community.
Born in Mexico City, Morales initiated his piano studies at the National School of Music in 1996 and pursued further education in Paris at the École Normale de Musique Alfred Cortot, earning his diploma in 2004. He supplemented his training at institutions like Mozarteum University’s Sommerakademie and École Nationale de Musique de Créteil before returning to Mexico in 2005, where he continued his studies under the tutelage of Néstor Castañeda.
Morales has showcased his talents as a soloist and chamber musician across prestigious venues in Mexico, France, and the United States. He expanded his repertoire to choral music, assuming the directorship of the Superior School of Music Youth Choir in 2009 and founding Poder Coral MX, an organization dedicated to promoting choral singing nationally.
Notably, in 2022, he was commissioned to compose a choral piece for the 40th anniversary of the Tamayo Museum before assuming his current position as director of the Puerto Vallarta Symphony Orchestra in February 2023.
