Vallarta Celebrates Decades of Senior Citizen Joy and Community

Puerto Vallarta’s DIF System, under the leadership of Claudia Peña, is currently in the midst of a heartwarming series of anniversary celebrations for its 28 senior citizen groups. These gatherings honor the enduring spirit and contributions of over 600 participants in the “Casa de día” (Day Home) program, with some groups proudly marking more than three decades of shared memories and friendship.

The “Casa de día” program is a cornerstone of support for Puerto Vallarta’s older adults, fostering strong community bonds and active participation through its various clubs located across the municipality. Beyond the joy of social interaction, these traditional anniversary celebrations are a highlight for many, bringing together members, their families, and friends.

A particularly touching moment at each annual celebration is the ceremonial crowning of an incoming queen and the fond farewell extended to the outgoing queen. These heartfelt transitions underscore the sense of camaraderie and respect within each group.

Claudia Peña, president of the DIF System, expressed profound appreciation for the senior citizens’ invaluable contributions to society. She emphasized the lasting legacy they create every day. “Congratulations for being part of this beautiful program, for your active participation, but above all for showing us that age is no impediment to enjoying life,” Peña remarked, her words resonating with the celebratory atmosphere.

In addition to these festive events, the “Casa de día” program offers a wide array of engaging activities throughout the year. Senior citizens can participate in workshops and classes designed to enrich their lives, including singing, dancing, crafts, and various other group activities.
