Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico – Hundreds of volunteers made a tangible difference in Puerto Vallarta last weekend by participating in a large-scale beach cleanup. This ninth such initiative, organized by the City Commission for Free, Clean and Certified Beaches, focused on the area at the mouth of the Cuale River.
The impressive turnout included students, beach workers, and concerned citizens, all united by a desire to protect the area’s natural beauty.
Councilman Christian Omar Bravo Carbajal, who leads the Commission, expressed his gratitude for the community’s dedication. This ongoing project, which tackles a different beach or river every two weeks, aims to create pristine spaces for everyone to enjoy, including local wildlife.

Juan Ramón Chávez Lara, Community Building Manager, along with councilmen Felipe Arechiga and Víctor Bernal Vargas, joined the volunteers in the effort. Employing a “thorough cleaning” technique, the group meticulously sifted through the sand, removing not only visible trash but also smaller, often overlooked items like cigarette butts and glass fragments. They even removed discarded bricks from the site. In total, the dedicated volunteers collected a remarkable two tons of trash.
Councilman Bravo extended an invitation to all citizens to partner with the government of Luis Munguía in maintaining the city’s natural spaces. He emphasized the importance of community involvement in creating a clean and sustainable Vallarta for present and future generations. This collaborative spirit demonstrates a commitment to preserving the city’s coastal treasures.
