Vallarta’s Día de Muertos Parade Draws Record Crowd

Puerto Vallarta came alive with joy and celebration on November 2 as its Day of the Dead festivities unfolded, highlighted by a massive parade that drew a record attendance of over 35,000 people. This spectacular display of color, tradition, and community pride was a central event of the 2025 Recuérdame Festival.

Starting at the 5 de Diciembre Cemetery and ending at the Los Muertos Pier, the procession featured more than 40 contingents representing institutions, local businesses, associations, community groups, and municipal departments. Spectators filled the marigold-lined streets as colorful floats, dancers, and elegant Catrinas passed by to the rhythm of traditional music, perfectly capturing the festive spirit of the occasion.

A major highlight was the unveiling of the world’s largest Catrina, the iconic skeletal figure synonymous with the city’s Day of the Dead celebrations. This monumental sculpture, located on the Malecón halfway along the parade route, served as a powerful homage to death and a celebration of the memory of those who have passed. Mayor Luis Munguía, alongside the Secretary of Tourism of Jalisco, Michelle Fridman, led the parade and performed the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the sculpture.

Mayor Munguía expressed his gratitude and excitement, stating, “We are very grateful, very excited; we will continue this festival year after year, and it will get better every time.” He also acknowledged Governor Pablo Lemus’s support in promoting this significant event internationally.

The festivities concluded with a spectacular musical and theatrical performance by the ocean, blending lights, dance, and storytelling that captivated both locals and visitors.

With this remarkable display of art, culture, and Mexican tradition, Puerto Vallarta proudly honors life and death, further cementing its reputation as a premier destination to experience the deeply meaningful Day of the Dead tradition in Mexico.
