Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico – Most people have at least one unforgettable tequila story, but MiMi Bomba has two. In her latest humorous confession, she looks back on a pair of adventures that left her questioning her memory, relying on good friends, and reaching one undeniable conclusion: tequila may be delicious, but it has a mischievous side all its own.
My premise for this column is “Tequila is Evil”.
I have two Tequila stories to tell you about. The first one was many years ago in California. The second one is from a beach north of Puerto Vallarta.
One day, my husband and I were doing tequila shots with friends at Woody’s Wharf, and I remember saying (stupidly) “Put something in it,” and we started doing doubles. By the end of the night, I was dancing on a table to stripper music.
The next morning (or afternoon – whenever I dragged myself out of bed – after five Advils and copious amounts of orange juice, I apologized to my husband. “I am so sorry for the way I behaved last night! Please, please forgive me! I will never do it again! It was the tequila!”
Here is what he said: “What? What are you talking about? You just sat at the table listening to Sweet Caroline with a little smile on your face. You didn’t say – or do – anything.”
Apparently, in my head I was dancing on tables, but in reality, I was a little zombie sitting quietly and behaving perfectly. I didn’t have nearly as much fun as I thought I had!
Skipping ahead a few decades, I was with amigas at Playa Manzanilla, having a great time, swimming, eating Pescado Zarandeado, and drinking cervezas. However, there were little pitchers of tequila on the table. Tequila, gratis. So apparently, I liked the idea of free tequila, and my next memory was being helped across the lobby to the elevator. ¡Gracias a mis amigas buenas! Sobre todo, Deb Darling! (Nobody said I danced on the table, so there’s that…)
I’m sure you can clearly see that tequila was to blame, right? I rest my case: Tequila is Evil!!
I still like it, though…

Feliz 4 de Julio! Cuidado con la tequila malvada!
