Velas Resorts Marks Earth Day with Eco-Friendly Experiences

In celebration of Earth Day on April 22, Velas Resorts is inviting guests to reconnect with nature through engaging, hands-on activities across its award-winning properties in Puerto Vallarta, Riviera Nayarit, Los Cabos, and Riviera Maya. These thoughtful experiences are designed to promote sustainability, inspire environmental awareness, and honor the beauty of Mexico’s natural and cultural heritage.

“At Velas Resorts, we believe sustainability is a daily commitment,” said Juan Vela Ruiz, President of Velas Resorts. “This Earth Day, we’re proud to offer our guests meaningful ways to experience and protect the environments that make each destination so special.”

Puerto Vallarta’s Casa Velas offers a Sustainable Gardening Workshop in its lush Botanical Garden. Guests will learn organic gardening techniques, discover native plants, and build a small garden using recycled materials. This hands-on session aims to spark long-term green habits and deepen appreciation for the natural world.

At Velas Vallarta, community and conservation come together in a large-scale tree-planting project at Marina Vallarta Golf Club. Guided by the resort’s gardening team, participants will help plant over 100 trees native to the region – an effort that will benefit the environment and surrounding community for years to come.

At Grand Velas Riviera Nayarit, guests can enjoy an Eco Tour featuring “Bonita,” a life-size inflatable whale that shares the story of Banderas Bay’s seasonal whale visitors. A guided bike ride offers a closer look at local landscapes, while a honey extraction demonstration in partnership with AZPER introduces guests to the essential role bees play in pollination and conservation. Participants can also create handmade candles or soap using beeswax. A beach cleanup rounds out the day’s activities, encouraging travelers to give back to the environment they’re exploring.

Over at Grand Velas Riviera Maya, the whole family can join in Earth Day celebrations. Children and teens can design their own eco-themed T-shirts using recycled materials. In the evening, a cultural performance inspired by Mayan traditions will showcase the connection between nature and heritage. Guests can also explore the resort’s meliponarium, home to stingless bees, and sample locally produced honey. Additional events include a symbolic “lights out” hour and beach cleanups to promote conservation and mindfulness.

At Grand Velas Los Cabos, young guests can participate in a Kids Fashion Recycle Design Workshop where they’ll create outfits from recycled items. Throughout the day, themed eco-activities and crafts will offer both fun and learning opportunities for children and teens.

Velas Resorts’ Earth Day programs highlight its dedication to preserving the environment while creating meaningful, memorable experiences for guests. These initiatives reflect a lasting commitment to sustainability, cultural respect, and community involvement.
