Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico – Relief is finally on the horizon for thousands of residents in northern Puerto Vallarta following days of widespread water disruptions. SEAPAL Vallarta announced that the municipal potable water pumping system has entered its final testing phase, marking a major turning point in the ongoing effort to fix the city’s supply network.

The tests follow critical interconnection work on the San Francisco Tank, a key piece of infrastructure designed to stabilize flow across lower-lying neighborhoods.
Families who have been dealing with dry taps will notice supply slowly returning to their taps, while households that already have access should see a noticeable boost in water pressure. The full recovery of the network will take time to balance out, with officials estimating that the normalization process will stretch over the next 48 hours.
The service breakdown originally stemmed from delays on a project managed by the Puerto Vallarta–Las Varas Highway Concessionaire, which missed its initial completion deadline last Thursday night. Seeing the growing impact on local households, SEAPAL Vallarta stepped in directly to take control, sending crews to work around the clock in non-stop shifts to fast-track the repairs and get the pumps running again.
During a progress update on August 19, SEAPAL Director General Carlos Ruiz confirmed that while main pipelines are coming back online, crews will continue supplementary work on the San Francisco Tank connection. Because intermittent pressure drops may still occur while the system stabilizes, SEAPAL is keeping its emergency relief measures active.
Water trucks and utility vehicles equipped with mobile tanks continue to deliver water directly to neighborhoods experiencing delays. Furthermore, the city’s automated “Gogomáticos” dispensing stations remain fully operational, offering free purified water refills to help residents get through the final stretch of the recovery.
