Puerto Vallarta Readies Cemeteries for the Day of the Dead

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – The municipal government of Puerto Vallarta is busy getting cemeteries throughout the municipality ready for the Day of the Dead festivities, which are expected to bring a large number of families to visit their dearly departed on November 1 and 2.

To this end, the Departments of Public Works, Municipal Public Services, Property Maintenance and Intendancy, along with municipal delegations and dependencies, are coordinating the work and various operations that must be carried out to ensure the safety and tranquility of visitors, as well as commercial activity in surrounding areas.

The works that have been undertaken in recent days include the repair and rehabilitation of access roads to the municipal cemeteries, along with surrounding streets and internal roads; the painting of the perimeter fences, masonry work, weed pruning and general cleaning within the graveyards, as well as the removal of some clandestine garbage dumps located nearby.

Municipal authorities have carried out tours to verify the conditions of each space, identify the areas that could represent a risk to the attendees, as well as establish the points where the lighting could be reinforced. They are also working on the distribution of the businesses that are traditionally placed at the outskirts of each cemetery, in addition to parking areas and the deployment of security personnel.

Joining these efforts is the Ministry of Health, which is busy taking care of the fumigation of the pantheons and the elimination of objects that could represent nesting points for the mosquito that transmits dengue.

According to data from the different areas of the municipality, last year there was an influx of 28,000 people in the five municipal cemeteries, so close coordination is maintained so that this year all the necessary measures are in place to maintain the order and tranquility of the Vallarta families that will be meeting in these venues, as greater attendance is expected.
