Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – The “Cobra” unit of the Puerto Vallarta Citizen Security Commission has launched a deterrence and surveillance operation in popular tourist areas of the municipality to provide residents and tourists with greater security.
On instructions from Commissioner Rigoberto Flores Parra, Deputy Operations Director Carlos Humberto Arce Villaseñor implemented the police actions that have been well received by tourists and merchants, because thanks to this, public order is maintained on beaches and public areas.
The officers instruct the homeless and people consuming intoxicating drinks to withdraw from public squares as a way of preventing possible events that disturb public order. Other actions include inhibiting home/hotel room burglaries, detecting weapons, and removing groups of people who gather on busy street corners and inconvenience neighbors and passers-by in the aforementioned areas.
The police chief stated that actions are being implemented to deal with these problems, but he asked the community for their support and cooperation by reporting any type of potentially bad situation to 911, saying “[knowing about potential problems] is the only way to control them.”
In addition, he said that all complaints must be supported so that the Municipal Police have evidence when it comes to acting, since many times they have to face complaints for alleged violations of human rights.
These operations will continue in a constant and random manner in the tourist areas of the municipality in order to reinforce security in the streets and reduce possible crimes, as has been the instruction of Mayor Luis Alberto Michel Rodríguez.
