Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico – According to the most recent INEGI National Urban Public Security Survey (ENSU), corresponding to the second quarter of 2023, Puerto Vallarta remains the safest city in Jalisco, but has dropped out of the top ten cities with the lowest perception of insecurity on the national level, coming in at #13.
To determine the public’s perception of security in cities throughout Mexico, every year during the first two weeks of March, June, September and December, the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI) conducts a National Urban Public Security Survey among the population over 18 years of age who reside in the 75 cities considered to be of interest in the national territory.
The June survey, published on Wednesday, July 19, places this destination as the safest city in the State of Jalisco, far surpassing Zapopan, which obtained 62.5% perception of insecurity, Tlajomulco 73.3%, Tlaquepaque (68.9%), Tonalá (71.9%) and Guadalajara 77.1%.
NATIONAL SAFE CITIES OVERVIEW
Nationwide, in June 2023, the ENSU establishes that the cities where residents felt safest were: San Pedro Garza García (13.2%), Benito Juárez (19.8%), Piedras Negras (20.0%), Cuajimalpa de Morelos (20.4%), Saltillo (22.2%), Tampico (23.0%), San Nicolás de los Garza (24.9%), Los Cabos (25.2%), Mérida (25.6%), La Paz (26.8%), Los Mochis (27.9%), Tepic (30.3%) and Puerto Vallarta at 30.7%.
In contrast, the cities with the highest percentage of people aged 18 and over who considered that living in their city as unsafe were: Fresnillo (92.8%), Zacatecas (91.7%), Ciudad Obregón (90.3%), Ecatepec de Morelos (87.6%), Irapuato (87.3%) and Naucalpan de Juárez (87.2%).
At the national level, 62.3% of the population aged 18 and over considered living in their city unsafe. This does not represent a statistically significant change in relation to the percentage registered in March 2023 (62.1%). However, it does represent a statistically significant change from June 2022, which was 67.4 percent.
The foregoing shows that the security strategy implemented by the three orders of government, and the strengthening of the Citizen Security directorate during the current administration headed by Professor Luis Alberto Michel Rodríguez, has given better results for the population of Vallarta and its visitors.
