Mexico City – Iberia announced a significant increase in seat capacity for flights between Europe and Mexico in 2024. The airline will offer over 772,000 seats, a 17% rise compared to 2019. This expansion coincides with a new codeshare agreement with Volaris, a Mexican low-cost carrier.
The codeshare agreement grants Iberia passengers access to 25 additional destinations within Mexico on Volaris flights. These destinations connect to Iberia’s existing service between Mexico City and Madrid. This collaboration improves overall connectivity between Europe and Mexico.
This partnership complements Iberia’s commitment to the Mexican market. They utilize their most advanced aircraft, the fuel-efficient A350, on the Spain-Mexico route, offering passengers a comfortable travel experience in Business, Premium Economy, and Economy classes.
“This agreement strengthens our commitment to Mexico,” said María Jesús López Solás of Iberia. “It allows us to offer superior connectivity and a more efficient travel experience for passengers flying both ways between Europe and Mexico.”
Volaris also emphasizes the benefits for travelers. “This partnership provides passengers with a wider range of options to explore Mexico,” stated Holger Blankenstein, President of Volaris. “Our goal is to continuously improve connectivity and enrich the travel experience.”
The agreement includes service to the following destinations: Acapulco, Cancún, Chetumal, Chihuahua, Ciudad Juárez, Cozumel, Culiacán, Guadalajara, Hermosillo, Huatulco, Ixtapa Zihuatanejo, La Paz, Los Mochis, Mazatlán, Mérida, Mexicali, Monterrey, Oaxaca, Puerto Vallarta, Puerto Escondido, San José del Cabo, Tapachula, Tijuana, Tuxtla Gutiérrez, and Villahermosa.
The agreement awaits approval from Mexican and Spanish authorities. Codeshare flights are expected to begin in July 2024.
