Southwest Expands Mexico Service with New Spring 2025 Routes

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – Southwest Airlines is expanding its service to Mexico just in time for the spring season, responding to the growing demand for sun-soaked getaways. Starting March 8, 2025, the airline will launch a new direct flight every Saturday between Sacramento and Puerto Vallarta, adding to its five existing direct routes to this popular beach vacation destination that’s known for its stunning bay and rich cultural attractions.

This new route complements Alaska Airlines’ upcoming direct flight from Sacramento to Puerto Vallarta, set to begin in January 2025, collectively adding around 1,400 extra airplane seats per month to this popular destination.

In addition to the Sacramento-Puerto Vallarta service, Southwest will introduce a weekly Saturday flight from Nashville, Tennessee, to San José del Cabo (Los Cabos), famous for its pristine beaches and lively nightlife. This new flight enhances Southwest’s existing non-stop route to Cancún, another favorite among spring break travelers.

Southwest Airlines continues to stand out with its customer-friendly policies, offering free checked bags and no change fees, giving travelers the flexibility to adjust their plans without worrying about extra costs— a key advantage over many other airlines.

Flights for these new routes are available for booking through April 7, 2025, perfectly timed for spring break. In 2024, Mexico topped the list of international destinations for U.S. travelers, according to Allianz Partners, with Cancún, San José del Cabo (Los Cabos), and Puerto Vallarta leading the way.
