Record-Breaking Sterilization Day for Puerto Vallarta Pets

Record-Breaking Sterilization Day for Puerto Vallarta Pets

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – Last Thursday, the Animal Welfare Directorate set a new record during its latest free sterilization event in Pitillal Linear Park. Originally targeting 35 procedures, the dedicated team successfully sterilized 49 animals, a testament to their unwavering commitment to animal welfare.

The day’s achievement, which included 22 dogs and 27 cats, underscores the effectiveness of collaborative efforts between the Directorate and the supportive government of Mayor Luis Munguía. This accomplishment demonstrates a significant step forward in responsible pet ownership and population control, directly contributing to the well-being of the city’s animal population and mitigating the number of strays.

Roberto Ornelas, head of the Animal Welfare Department, expressed his enthusiasm for the success and announced a series of upcoming sterilization events throughout March, extending the opportunity for pet owners to participate in the upcoming free sterilization clinics:

March 13: Pitillal Linear Park
March 20: Mass sterilization at La Lija, in collaboration with Sociedad Animal and the Jalisco Health Secretariat
March 27: Casa Tucán, Ramblases

Pet owners are encouraged follow guidelines for the safety of their animals, including fasting for eight hours before surgery. To ensure a smooth process, the Directorate advises arriving before 8:00 am. Female dogs and cats should be sterilized four months post-birth and must not be pregnant or in heat. Puppies, starting from four months old, require an eight-hour fast. Dogs should be leashed, and cats must be brought in carriers or suitable improvised containers.

These guidelines facilitate a safe and efficient procedure, fostering a healthier future for Puerto Vallarta residents’ furry friends.
