Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – In a heartfelt act of remembrance and respect, Puerto Vallarta has relocated its memorial to women victims of femicide to a new home in Women’s Park. This move, carried out in full agreement with the families, ensures that the memory of these women continues to be honored in a safe and meaningful way.
Originally placed near the city’s welcome letters in 2021, the 21 symbolic crosses have now been carefully moved due to upcoming roadwork at the original site. The new location at Women’s Park, near Francisco Villa Avenue and the Luis Donaldo Colosio bypass, offers a more protected space for reflection and remembrance.
The relocation ceremony took place on April 15 and was led by José Juan Velázquez Hernández, Secretary General of the City Council, on behalf of Mayor Luis Munguía. Velázquez expressed the city’s full support for the families and acknowledged the strength of those who have transformed grief into a powerful call for justice.
“This memorial is not just a display – it’s a permanent reminder of a painful reality that must never be forgotten,” said historian Moisés Hernández López. Representing the city chronicler, he emphasized the importance of keeping this testimony visible and reaffirmed the city’s dedication to truth, justice, and the eradication of gender-based violence.
The process was documented in detail through photos, videos, and official records, reflecting the seriousness with which the city treats this effort. The action also aligns with the commitments made under the Technical Roundtable on Gender Violence Alert.
By relocating the memorial with care and unity, Puerto Vallarta sends a clear message: the city remembers, honors, and continues to stand with the victims and their families in the ongoing fight for justice.
