Puerto Vallarta is off to a strong start in 2025, strengthening its place as one of Mexico’s top tourist destinations. In the first four months of 2025, this popular coastal city welcomed 76 cruise ships, bringing with them over 237,000 eager passengers. This influx of visitors has generated an estimated economic boost exceeding 412.6 million pesos for the region.
This impressive performance marks a significant 12 percent surge compared to the same period last year, signaling a continued upward trend in Puerto Vallarta’s appeal. April alone saw 23 cruise liners arrive, carrying 65,953 individuals, a notable 7.8 percent increase in passenger numbers compared to April 2024. These April visitors contributed an estimated 113 million pesos to the local economy, reflecting an encouraging 14.2 percent rise from the previous year.
But it’s not just cruise tourism that’s growing. Puerto Vallarta has been recognized as a top international destination for American travelers this summer. Recent findings from the Allianz Partners USA report on premier summer getaways reveal that this Jalisco port city ranks among the ten most-booked international locations by those flying from the United States. Notably, Mexico stands out as the most sought-after country, boasting three destinations within this prestigious top ten.
Mirroring trends observed during spring break, Puerto Vallarta continues to captivate international tourists, sharing the spotlight with renowned cities such as London, Paris, and Punta Cana. With an impressive network of 26 direct air routes connecting it to the United States, coupled with a superb array of tourist amenities and engaging activities, Puerto Vallarta remains a favorite getaway for visitors looking for both excitement and relaxation.
