Xiutla Folkloric Ballet Celebrates 31 Years of Tradition

Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico – The renowned Xiutla Municipal Folkloric Dance Group will celebrate 31 years of cultural excellence with a special performance on Thursday, July 31 at 7:00 pm at Teatro Vallarta.

Founded on July 27, 1994, by Professor Enrique Barrios y Limón, Xiutla – named after the Nahuatl word meaning “place where grass grows” – has grown from a small children’s program into a respected cultural institution. With unwavering support from the municipal government, Barrios y Limón has spent more than three decades nurturing generations of young dancers, passing down the rich traditions of Mexican folklore.

Xiutla’s dedication to preserving and promoting Mexican traditions has taken them far beyond Puerto Vallarta. The group has proudly represented the city with remarkable success on more than 40 tours, performing over 3,700 times in various venues across Latin America, the United States, Europe, and Asia. Their extensive repertoire, covering regional dances from all corners of Mexico, is a testament to their commitment to authenticity and excellence.

This upcoming celebration at Teatro Vallarta offers Puerto Vallarta residents and visitors a wonderful opportunity to witness the magic unfold. The gifted Xiutla troupe will present a captivating showcase of regional dances from various Mexican states.

Audiences can anticipate the mesmerizing spins of Jalisco’s Son Jalisciense, the spirited footwork of Veracruz’s Zapateado, and the elegant grace of Guerrero’s Chilena. Each performance promises to be a captivating window into Mexico’s rich cultural tapestry, brought to life with the passion and dedication of Xiutla’s young artists.

Widely regarded as an esteemed tradition in Puerto Vallarta, the Xiutla Municipal Folkloric Group continues to inspire and unite through the power of dance.
