Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico – The Vallarta Botanical Garden is celebrating a major success after a recent fundraising campaign secured the future of its most delicate plant collections.
The Garden announced it has exceeded its goal for a matching-gift fundraiser, which was launched to purchase a new commercial-grade electrical generator. The generator will serve as a critical backup during power outages, which pose a significant threat to thousands of young plants, including endangered orchids, housed in the Garden’s greenhouse and propagation laboratory.
The campaign, which saw donations from 125 individuals, raised a total of $25,350 USD, surpassing its initial $20,000 goal. This amount will be generously matched by an initial donor, who pledged an additional $20,000. These combined funds will not only cover the cost of purchasing and installing the new generator but will also support its initial operating expenses.
According to Garden Curator and Founder Bob Price, power interruptions can critically affect the temperature controls and fans essential for the survival of the young plant seedlings. He expressed immense gratitude to all the supporters, highlighting the community’s role in the Garden’s success.
