Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – The latest news from PuRR Project, a non-profit, no-kill feline shelter just north of Puerto Vallarta that provides homeless cats and kittens a recuperative stay with the ultimate goal of adopting them out to loving homes sterilized, vaccinated and disease free.
SHELTER UPDATE

We had one major tropical storm in September but thankfully no major damage at the shelter! We’re hoping October is as lucky though it has traditionally been our worst month for hurricanes. People continue to abandon kittens at the shelter with another 40 plus one mother last month. Most are only 2-4 weeks old and simply too young to be taken from the mother. We do the best we can but the sad truth is that without her natural immunity they have less chance to survive.
VIRTUAL ADOPTIONS
Thank you and Muchas Gracias to Ann Savio and Dany Bolduc who both picked a shelter cat to Virtually Adopt last month! It’s a great way to financially support PuRR and also makes a great gift for a cat-loving friend or family member! It’s only $120 a year and will help us continue to give these adult cats a safe home and medical care for life. You can learn how to virtually adopt and also meet all the candidates, like Tostada, by going to our website.
UPCOMING EVENTS
We plan to be back at our regular table outside Daiquiri Dick’s starting Saturday, November 1st. We’ll have all the logo items plus the 2026 PuRR calendar! The first Kitty BINGO is scheduled for Wednesday, November 5 at Nacho Daddy. And our annual Fall Garage Sale will probably be on Saturday, December 6. We’ll be collecting donations soon so keep us in mind if your have “stuff” that needs a new home! You can contact us at donate(at)purrproject.com to make arrangements.
FEATURED FELINES: WHISKEY & WAFFLE

Now there’s a tasty combination! Passed over for adoption at PetCo, Whiskey and his sister Waffle are now about 7 months old and reside in the shelter “teenage” casita. They are beautiful, loving and would make great companions either separate or together. Unfortunately, most people are looking for the younger kittens to adopt and we have a non-ending supply of those! If you are interested in adopting either of them or one of our adult cats, contact Linda at adopt(at)purrproject.com.
ADOPTIONS
Adoptions were slow again in September with one at the shelter and six at PetCo. We were thrilled that Mama Wilma finally found her Forever Home after many months in the Senior Center. And volunteers Sharon and Ken Rose met Julio when they stopped by Petco and it was love at first PuRR so he’s now at home with their other rescue kitty! Remember, we bring our favorite kitties to the PetCo Adoption Center every weekend so please spread the word to friends or family looking for a new furry companion.
GRACIAS! THANKS! MERCI! DANKE! ARIGATO!
We were really pleased to receive generous donations from Dorothy Scrementi, Pam Brassseal, Cheryl Burt, Crystal Smith, and David Heitz, in memory of his cat-loving friend, Paul Shields.
As always, we are grateful for those monthly donors who are so essential to our success: The McCullough Family Gift Fund, Gary Phillips, Sharon & Ken Rose, Terri & Gray Levy, Joanne Bryla, Trisha Aljoe, Pat & Sandy Glenn, Catherine Goglia & Jim Shoemaker, Karen & Walt Trolson, Robert Weed, Jerry Petrizzo, Heidi Benedict, Timothy Oleno, Larry Sherwood, Mary & Bob Fitzgerald, David Flannery, Elizabeth Fuerherm and Janice North.
