Puerto Vallarta, México – Progress continues on the expansion of Puerto Vallarta’s Malecón, where construction teams report that work remains on track with only a few weeks left before the six-week completion deadline. Crews have accelerated activity along the section bordering Hidalgo Park, a key area of the project.
The expansion, which began on October 13, is concentrating its efforts on the rehabilitation of Mexico Avenue, spanning from Argentina Street to October 31st Street in Cinco de Diciembre neighborhood. While the initial focus has shown remarkable progress near Hidalgo Park, the overall goal is to strengthen the city’s pedestrian infrastructure and enhance the tourist experience along the city’s iconic boardwalk.
A key element of this initiative is making the area much more accessible for everyone. Improvements include leveling sidewalks for easier access, adding new seating and planters, and improving the existing bike path. The elevated surface will improve stormwater collection through upgraded drains, while standardized materials – porphyry stone, washed concrete, and black gravel designs inspired by Wixárika art – will create a unified look throughout the area.
In the Hidalgo Park area, construction teams are actively renovating public spaces, modernizing sidewalks, and installing new lighting and street furniture. These improvements will boost safety and accessibility, while creating a more welcoming environment for residents and visitors who pass through this part of the historic center every day.
According to the technical report, the expansion also includes improvements to storm drainage and the integration of new green areas, making the public space more efficient and sustainable.
Municipal authorities reaffirmed their commitment to completing the project on time, noting that the improvements will support tourism development and contribute to Puerto Vallarta’s refreshed urban landscape.
