Guadalajara International Book Fair Returns for 2025 Edition

Jalisco, México – The Guadalajara International Book Fair (FIL) will return to Expo Guadalajara from November 29 to December 7, 2025, bringing nine days of literature, culture, and global exchange to Jalisco’s capital. Now in its 39th year, the event remains the most important publishing gathering in Ibero-America and the largest Spanish-language book fair in the world.

Created by the University of Guadalajara, the FIL is known for welcoming both industry professionals and the general public – an approach that continues to set it apart from other international fairs. This year’s edition will feature more than 3,000 activities, 18,000 professionals, 2,800 publishers from 60 countries, and a delegation of over 800 writers. Organizers expect attendance to exceed 900,000 visitors.

Barcelona will be the Guest of Honor, presenting a cultural program inspired by Mercè Rodoreda’s short story Vindran les flors (“The Flowers Will Come”). A delegation of 69 Catalan and Spanish-language authors will participate, along with exhibitions, film screenings, performing arts, and culinary events that showcase Barcelona’s blend of tradition and contemporary creativity.

One of the most popular spaces, FIL Kids, will again offer an imaginative environment focused on developing young readers. The pavilion will bring together music, theater, opera, clowning, multimedia projects, and puppetry, all curated through literature and artistic experimentation. FIL Niños will also host 77 performances by 25 companies from Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Spain, the United States, Italy, Mexico, Poland, Portugal, and the guest city, Barcelona, turning storytelling into an interactive experience.

The fair continues to expand its specialized programming. FIL Science links scientific themes with literature through talks and presentations designed for broad audiences, while FIL Youth engages students with workshops, reading activities, and opportunities to meet authors. Visitors can also expect concerts, exhibitions, illustration and comic events, translation forums, and the traditional “Night Sale,” when booksellers offer extended hours and special discounts.

For nine days, Guadalajara becomes a meeting point for readers, publishers, artists, and cultural institutions from across the world. The FIL is more than an opportunity to purchase books—it is a celebration of creativity, an important event for cultural tourism, and a key moment for dialogue within the global literary community.
