Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico – U.S. citizens living abroad – including dual nationals – can still take part in American elections, and residents of Puerto Vallarta and the greater Banderas Bay area will soon have an opportunity to get registered locally.
Democrats Abroad Costa Banderas is hosting a two-day voter registration and ballot request event in recognition of International Voter Registration Day.
The first event takes place on January 15 from 12:00 to 3:00 pm at Casita & Garden, located at Naranjo 321 in Zona Romántica. Attendees can enjoy live entertainment by Bing Young, light appetizers, and a cash bar. The gathering also offers space for participants to share why voting from abroad matters to them.
A second session will be held on January 16 from 11:00 am to 2:30 pm at Café Bohemio, located at C. Rodolfo Gómez 127, also in Zona Romántica, for those unable to attend the first day.
At both events, trained volunteers from Democrats Abroad Costa Banderas will be available to help voters complete their Federal Post Card Application (FPCA), which serves as both a voter registration and ballot request. Participants are encouraged to bring any document or identification that includes their U.S. and Mexico addresses to help speed up the process.
Organizers emphasize the importance of registering early to ensure eligibility for the 2026 primaries and future elections. Voting rules vary by state and sometimes by county, and voter registration and ballot requests must be submitted at the start of each calendar year.
The group is also inviting community members to become voter assistants. Volunteers can help fellow citizens understand registration requirements, stay informed about changes in their home states, and feel confident exercising their right to vote from abroad.
