Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, México – Acclaimed author, researcher and educator Leslie Korn will present a special book reading at 5 pm on February 24 at The Living Room Bookstore Centro, sharing selections from three of her books inspired by her life and work in Cabo Corrientes beginning in 1973.
The two-hour event will offer an intimate afternoon of storytelling, history and reflection, as Korn recounts her years living in Yelapa and her connection to the culture and healing traditions of West Mexico.
Korn spent 25 years in Yelapa, where she opened a small school and later founded a pro bono public health, traditional medicine and naturopathic clinic licensed by the municipal government in El Tuito. Through her clinic, she treated acute and chronic illness, including physical and emotional trauma, while working closely with local communities and traditional healers.
As a Fulbright scholar in Mexico, Korn conducted pioneering research on the region’s ethnobotany. Her academic journey later took her to Harvard Medical School, where she led public health research on tropical plant medicines and focused on post-trauma therapy within the Department of Psychiatry. Though she briefly traded the jungles of Mexico for the halls of academia, she returned home as soon as she could.
The author of 10 books, Korn has also directed and produced four documentaries, including two based in Mexico. She now makes her home in Puerto Vallarta with her two beloved Havanese dogs and continues to write, teach and inspire.
Her upcoming reading at The Living Room Bookstore offers the public a rare opportunity to hear firsthand stories drawn from a life dedicated to service, scholarship and the healing arts.
The Living Room Bookstore & Café Centro is located at 1377 Colombia in the Cinco de Diciembre neighborhood of Puerto Vallarta.
