Puerto Vallarta, México – The latest news from PuRR Project, a non-profit, no-kill feline shelter just north of Puerto Vallarta that provides homeless cats and kittens a recuperative stay with the ultimate goal of adopting them out to loving homes sterilized, vaccinated and disease free.
SHELTER UPDATE
First we want to say that the recent turmoil in Jaliscco did not cause any harm to the shelter, its residents or volunteers! It was stressful but, as of this writing, all has basically returned to normal. We were so fortunate that the GECKO Car Rental crew had brought a large donation of food and litter to the shelter so we were well stocked during the time that COSTCO was closed! We did have to close the PetCo Adoption Center one day so possibly lost some adoptions but it’s now open again! Thank you everyone who sent messages asking about our safety.
UPCOMING EVENTS

KITTY BINGO: When you hear MEEOWWS coming from Nacho Daddy on a Wednesday afternoon, you might wonder if people are auditioning for a production of “Cats.” But no, they are announcing that they have won a game of PuRR Project BINGO. One of the nonprofit organization’s most popular fundraising events takes place every other week from early November through early May at one of Puerto Vallarta’s popular nightlife venues. The March dates are the 11th and 25th.
SATURDAY MARKET: We’ll be at our regular spot outside Daiquiri Dick’s every Saturday from 10am-1pm with all the PuRR logo T-shirts, mugs, caps, drink holders & the popular dish towels. They all make great gifts for your cat-loving friends and family… and yourself!
RANCH HIGHLIGHT: SIMONA’S SENIOR CENTER
While kittens fill the majority of housing spaces at the PuRR Project shelter and require a bulk of our resources, we equally recognize and cherish senior and special-needs cats.
To fill this need, the Senior Center was constructed in 2017 after Glenda and Steve Bland launched a GoFundMe campaign to raise funds. We named it for Simona, then the oldest feline resident. Because our kitten population exceeds the capacity of the other casitas, we have had to set aside an annex at the “back” of the senior center for weeks-old kitties. There may be a lower-energy vibe in the “front” of the casita, but the seniors never complain about the “kids next door.
ADOPTIONS

The PetCo Adoption Center is still our best source of adoptions but February was unfortunately a slow month with only 5 at PetCo plus one through a foster. With so MANY kittens in the nursery casitas, it’s sometimes difficult to choose who is going. We try to pick the friendliest and of course they are all tested, vaccinated, sterilized and ready for that Forever Home!
GRACIAS! THANKS! MERCI! DANKE! ARIGATO!
A special thanks to Faye Cardenas, Keith Cowan & their kitty “Cleo” for their very generous donation last month! And of course to the GECKO Car Rental staff for all the food and litter and kitty toys!
As always, we are grateful for those monthly donors who are so essential to our success: The McCullough Family Gift Fund, Gary Phillips, Sharon & Ken Rose, Terri & Gray Levy, Joanne Bryla, Trisha Aljoe, Pat & Sandy Glenn, Catherine Goglia & Jim Shoemaker, Karen & Walt Trolson, Shari Stone-Ulrich, Robert Weed, Jerry Petrizzo, Heidi Benedict, Timothy Oleno, Larry Sherwood, Mary & Bob Fitzgerald, David Flannery, Elizabeth Fuerherm, Janice North and Katie Hannasch.
