Bucerías Oyster Festival Returns April 4-5, 2026

The seaside community of Bucerías is preparing to welcome residents and visitors for the 2026 Oyster Festival, set for April 4 and 5. This long-standing celebration honors the town’s oyster-diving heritage while offering two days of music, culture, and fresh seafood along the coast.

Known as the “Place of the Divers,” Bucerías has built its identity around oyster harvesting, an activity that remains a cornerstone of the local economy. Each spring, the town hosts the Feria de Ostiones as a tribute to the divers whose work has supported families and helped shape the community’s traditions.

Organized by the Municipal Government of Bahía de Banderas in collaboration with local residents, this year’s program features a wide range of cultural, artistic, and culinary activities designed to entertain families and visitors enjoying their Semana Santa holidays in the Vallarta-Nayarit region.

The festival traces its roots back to the year 2000, when it was first created to recognize the dedication of local oyster divers. Held at the close of the oyster harvesting season, the celebration’s most anticipated highlight is the Biggest Oyster contest. Divers compete to bring in the largest oyster from the ocean floor, with top honors awarded to the one who secures the biggest catch.

Festivities begin on Saturday, April 4, at 10:00 am with musical performances, family-friendly entertainment, and the Oyster Ambassador pageant. The official opening ceremony is scheduled for Easter Sunday, April 5, between 1-2 pm, followed by a full afternoon of artistic performances.

One of the most popular features of the festival will take place on Sunday, when organizers host a large free tasting for attendees. Local divers and producers will contribute approximately 10,000 oysters and 500 kilograms of ceviche, offering guests a chance to sample the flavors that define the town’s culinary reputation.

Beyond the festivities, the Oyster Festival plays an important role in supporting the local economy and strengthening Bucerías’ reputation as a notable destination for seafood and regional traditions. Municipal officials have extended an open invitation to the public to attend and take part in this annual celebration, which continues to honor the town’s heritage while bringing the community together.
