Puerto Vallarta and Jalisco Shine at Tianguis Turístico 2026

The 50th edition of the Tianguis Turístico de México officially opened on April 27, 2026, in Acapulco, marking the event’s return to its birthplace after 15 years as a traveling showcase. Hosted at Expo Mundo Imperial, the milestone edition celebrates half a century as Mexico’s premier tourism gathering, with strong participation from Puerto Vallarta and the state of Jalisco.

Running through April 30, the event is expected to welcome more than 8,000 attendees, including 1,000 international buyers from 17 countries. Organizers anticipate facilitating up to 30,000 business meetings, strengthening partnerships and opening new opportunities for destinations across Mexico. This year’s edition also highlights Acapulco’s resilience and continued importance as one of the country’s historic tourism destinations.

Puerto Vallarta, which previously hosted the Tianguis Turístico in 2012, is well represented at this year’s event. The local delegation includes tourism leaders such as Luis Villaseñor Nolasco, Abel Villa Sánchez, Martín Rodríguez Félix, Vidal Meza Peña, and Citlali Peña, along with executives from hotels and visitor service companies.

Leading the state delegation is Tourism Secretary Michelle Fridman Hirsch, who is guiding an ambitious agenda designed to strengthen Jalisco’s international presence. The delegation has scheduled more than 1,500 business meetings and is working toward signing letters of intent with more than eight commercial partners, including airlines and wholesale travel agencies. These agreements are expected to support expanded air connectivity and stronger promotion in priority tourism markets.

Jalisco’s presence at the Tianguis includes a large exhibition stand featuring 38 companies and tourism organizations. Delegates are holding a full schedule of meetings with industry partners, focusing on agreements that will help attract more visitors and strengthen the tourism supply chain across the state.

Ahead of the official opening, Jalisco participated in Ventana a México, the first open and free showcase associated with the Tianguis. This public event allowed residents and visitors to experience the culture, flavors, and traditions of Mexico’s regions. Jalisco stood out with displays of gastronomy and handcrafted goods, featuring cultural ambassadors from Sayula and Mazamitla. The showcase comes at a significant moment for the state’s culinary reputation, following its inclusion in the Michelin Guide.

The state also highlighted traditional crafts that reflect its heritage, using ancestral techniques and locally sourced materials. These displays showcased the cultural identity of Jalisco’s regions and reinforced its reputation as a destination rich in history and tradition.

Jalisco’s tourism promotion emphasizes the diversity of its offerings, including its 12 Pueblos Mágicos, beach destinations such as Costalegre and Puerto Vallarta, and its capital, Guadalajara, known for its extensive hotel infrastructure, strong air connectivity, modern convention centers, and year-round cultural programming.

Gastronomy and heritage experiences are also central to the state’s presentation, with tastings of tequila and raicilla organized in collaboration with leading producers such as Mundo Cuervo, Casa Sauza, Tequileño, Cofradía, 3 Gallos, Tabernas de San Gregorio, and Hacienda Divisadero. Visitors can learn about agave traditions through tastings, tours, and cultural experiences tied to the region’s heritage.

Another highlight is the promotion of the Raicilla Route, which showcases Jalisco’s second distilled spirit with a Denomination of Origin granted in 2019. Produced in 16 municipalities in Jalisco and one in neighboring Nayarit, raicilla production centers are located throughout the region surrounding Puerto Vallarta. The route includes more than 50 taverns open to visitors and offers a mix of gastronomy, nature, lodging, and cultural traditions.

Throughout the Tianguis, performances by various folkloric ballet groups are also scheduled, presenting traditional music and dance to national and international audiences. These cultural presentations complement business activities and provide visitors with a deeper appreciation of Mexico’s heritage.

As the Tianguis Turístico de México celebrates its 50th anniversary, the strong presence of Puerto Vallarta and Jalisco reflects their continued leadership in the country’s tourism sector and their commitment to promoting culture, innovation, and meaningful travel experiences to the world.
