Road Closures Announced for Vallarta Pride 2026 Festivities

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – The 2026 edition of Vallarta Pride, which began on May 17 and continues through May 24, with thousands of visitors and residents enjoying a week of celebrations, entertainment, and community events that highlight Puerto Vallarta’s welcoming spirit and strong connection to the LGBTQ+ community.

A major highlight of this year’s festivities is the Pride Parade on Thursday, May 21. The colorful procession is expected to draw thousands of participants and spectators as it travels from the area near the Sheraton Buganvilias Resort & Convention Center starting at 4:00 pm. The procession will move south along the iconic Malecón and through the heart of the city, showcasing elaborate costumes and uplifting music before concluding at the intersection of Olas Altas and Rodolfo Gómez in the Romantic Zone.

To accommodate the festivities, the Municipal Government of Puerto Vallarta announced several temporary road closures and traffic modifications beginning Thursday afternoon.

Authorities stated that traffic disruptions related to the Pride Parade will begin at 2:00 pm and will primarily affect the downtown area, El Centro, and the Zona Romántica.

Among the announced closures are the north-south lanes of Francisco Medina Ascencio Boulevard at Las Américas Avenue, the central lane of Medina Ascencio near Peru Street, and the complete closure of Avenida México between San Salvador and Venezuela streets.

Officials noted that Peru Street will serve as an alternate southbound route connecting to Morelos Street in downtown Puerto Vallarta. Avenida México is expected to reopen around 7:30 pm.

Public transportation will also be adjusted during the festivities. Beginning at 5:00 pm, buses traveling toward downtown will be detoured via Honduras and Peru streets. However, authorities confirmed that traffic heading south on Ignacio L. Vallarta Street and north on Insurgentes Avenue will continue operating normally. Tunnel route buses will also remain unchanged.

Following the parade, Lázaro Cárdenas Street will transition into a pedestrian-only entertainment corridor for the annual Pride Block Party. Two blocks along Lázaro Cárdenas, including intersections with Ignacio L. Vallarta, Insurgentes, and Constitución streets, will be closed to vehicle traffic.

The Block Party is considered one of the most anticipated events of Vallarta Pride, featuring DJs, dancing, outdoor stages, sponsor activations, live entertainment, and headline performances throughout the evening. This year’s celebration will include a featured performance by Mexican pop singer Fey.

Thousands of attendees are expected to fill the streets of the Zona Romántica as the celebration continues late into the night.

Festivities continue on Friday, May 22 at 5:00 pm, with the annual Púlpito Drag Derby, another crowd-favorite event known for its playful and community-driven atmosphere. During the event, Púlpito Street will be closed to traffic, with Pilitas Street serving as the designated alternate route.

Originally introduced during Vallarta Pride 2015, the Drag Derby transforms Calle Púlpito into a spirited high-heel obstacle course where drag queens race uphill while completing challenges and entertaining spectators.

City officials encourage everyone to plan travel routes in advance throughout the remainder of the festival week ending May 24. Utilizing walking paths through El Centro is recommended, as pedestrian travel remains the fastest way to navigate the heavy crowds, as Puerto Vallarta celebrates one of its most beloved annual events.
