Puerto Vallarta’s water utility, SEAPAL Vallarta, invested more than 6 million pesos during May to strengthen drinking water production and improve the reliability of sanitation services ahead of the 2026 rainy season.
The investment forms part of an ongoing effort directed by Luis Munguía to reinforce essential infrastructure, enhance service continuity, and prepare the city for weather-related challenges that often accompany the summer months.
Among the most significant actions was the acquisition of nine new pumping units. Five of these pumps were installed at key production sites, including Gallery 3 of the Cuale River, Well 37, Well 25, the Agua Azul Repumping Station, and the Vertical Galleries of the Mascota River. The equipment has already helped recover and strengthen drinking water production capacity, improving the system’s ability to meet demand throughout the city.
To further enhance reliability, SEAPAL has also reserved four versatile pumping units that can be deployed immediately in the event of equipment failures at any water production source. This strategy is expected to reduce response times, speed up flow recovery, and help maintain uninterrupted service for residents.
As part of its rainy-season preparedness program, the utility is carrying out preventive maintenance on emergency power plants at 13 strategic facilities. These efforts are designed to reduce the impact of potential electrical outages caused by severe weather.
The maintenance work includes eight wastewater pumping stations, which play a critical role in protecting public health and preventing environmental damage. Additional attention is being given to Wells 37, 25, and 1 Juntas, as well as the Cerro del Machete and Río Cuale water treatment plants, helping safeguard key drinking water sources against possible storm-related impacts.
SEAPAL has also acquired a new set of specialized winches to strengthen preventive cleaning and desilting operations within the sanitary drainage network. The equipment will be used particularly in areas where grease buildup is common, helping crews prevent blockages, reduce the risk of spills, and keep wastewater systems operating efficiently.
Through these investments and maintenance efforts, SEAPAL continues to strengthen Puerto Vallarta’s water and sanitation infrastructure, ensuring the city is better prepared to provide dependable services throughout the rainy season and beyond.
