Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – The Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) is preparing to bring a new electrical substation online in Puerto Vallarta, a project aimed at strengthening the city’s power network and meeting rising energy demand in some of its busiest tourism and residential areas.
The new substation will be located next to the CFE offices in the 5 de Diciembre neighborhood and is expected to begin operations in the coming weeks, although an official inauguration date has not yet been announced.
The project was discussed during a recent meeting between CFE representatives, local residents, and business owners from the Romantic Zone. Following the meeting, COPARMEX Puerto Vallarta President Francisco Gabriel Vizcaíno Rendón explained that the new infrastructure will help increase transmission capacity and improve the reliability of the electrical system serving the city.
According to CFE officials, the substation will help reduce the load currently carried by the Nogalito substation and another facility located along the Libramiento Carretero.
By distributing demand more efficiently across the network, the project is expected to strengthen service in areas stretching from 5 de Diciembre through Emiliano Zapata and Olas Altas.
Vizcaíno Rendón noted that these neighborhoods have experienced steady growth in recent years, resulting in increased electricity consumption from homes, businesses, hotels, restaurants, and other tourism-related operations.
The new substation is part of ongoing efforts to ensure that Puerto Vallarta’s infrastructure keeps pace with its development and the needs of residents and visitors alike. Once preparations are complete, CFE will announce the dates when electrical connections will be transferred to the new facility before it officially enters service.
With demand continuing to grow across the city, the additional capacity is expected to provide greater support for one of Mexico’s leading coastal destinations while helping maintain a reliable power supply for the communities it serves.
