Puerto Vallarta Expands Police Fleet with 35 New Patrol Vehicles

Puerto Vallarta has strengthened its public safety capabilities with the addition of 35 new patrol vehicles, a move aimed at improving surveillance, response times, and citizen services throughout the municipality.

The new fleet was officially delivered this week, with 30 of the vehicles acquired through resources from the Fund for Contributions to Strengthen Municipalities and Territorial Demarcations of the Federal District (FORTAMUN) 2026. The federal program is one of the primary sources of funding used by municipalities across Mexico to enhance public security, infrastructure, and essential services.

An additional five patrol vehicles were provided on loan by the Government of Jalisco. While these units remain state property, they will be operated by Puerto Vallarta’s Citizen Security Police Station to support local law enforcement efforts.

The patrol cars will be deployed across neighborhoods, tourist districts, and other high-traffic areas, helping expand police presence and improve service for both residents and visitors. The investment is also expected to increase the department’s operational capacity while replacing older vehicles that have experienced years of wear and tear.

During the handover ceremony, Mayor Luis Munguía recognized the dedication of Puerto Vallarta’s police officers and emphasized that the new fleet represents both an investment in public safety and a recognition of the officers’ ongoing commitment to protecting the community.

He also highlighted specialized programs that continue to broaden the scope of local policing. Among them are the Green Patrol, which focuses on animal welfare and protection, and the Purple Patrol, a specialized unit dedicated to supporting and protecting women.

The expansion comes as Puerto Vallarta continues to experience growth in both population and tourism, increasing the demand for public safety services and specialized assistance. Municipal officials noted that strengthening the vehicle fleet will help officers respond more efficiently to calls for service and maintain a stronger presence throughout the city.

With the addition of these 35 patrol vehicles, Puerto Vallarta continues to invest in the tools and resources needed to support public safety, enhance community services, and meet the needs of a growing destination.
