Survey Says Puerto Vallarta Safe

Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico – The city of Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, is among the ten safest cities in the country, according to the latest National Safety Survey results, which were released by INEGI on Monday, October 19, 2020.

To determine the public’s perception of security in cities throughout Mexico, every year during the first two weeks of March, June, September and December, the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI) conducts a National Urban Public Security Survey.

According to the survey, which covered the third quarter of 2020 (July-Sept), Puerto Vallarta continues to be one of the safest places to live in Mexico. Among the 70 Mexican cities where the evaluation was conducted, Vallarta placed 7th, with San Pedro Garza García; La Paz, Mérida, Los Cabos, Cuajimalpa and Saltillo taking the top 6 spots for citizen security.

After the results of the 28th National Urban Public Safety Survey (ENSU) were released, Mayor Arturo Dávalos Peña highlighted that Puerto Vallarta residents’ sense of security is the result of the coordination and teamwork maintained by the IX Public Security Executive Council of the North Coast.

The Security Council brings authorities from the three levels of governments of Puerto Vallarta, Tomatlán, and Cabo Corrientes together for weekly virtually meetings in which they define strategies to strengthen public safety measures and evaluate actions already undertaken to improve security in the region.

“This board sets as an example at the national level for coordination, communication, and the work that we do as a team to keep this region among the top places of perception of security at the national level; of course we are very happy to continue working together as a team should – with each one doing the work that corresponds to their municipality. This public security council has worked on the North Coast of the state of Jalisco, as proven by the numbers that are presented by our members week after week,” the mayor of Puerto Vallarta said.

For the security council, keeping Puerto Vallarta and the North Coast region safe is an ongoing endeavor that these efforts will continue to strengthen. By maintaining constant and timely coordination they aim to ensure that residents have better living conditions and that the tourists who vacation here year after year can enjoy the tranquility that they and their families deserve.
