Above-Average August Rainfall Surpasses Expectations in Vallarta

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – Last weekend’s unforeseen heavy rains marked a surprising turn for Puerto Vallarta’s weather this August. Weather stations in the Banderas Bay region have already measured more rain than the usual average for this time of year.

And there are still a few days left in the month, suggesting that the accumulated rainfall will continue to rise, according to meteorologist Víctor Manuel Cornejo López, who’s a part of the scientific committee for Civil Protection in the bay.

Earlier this year, the specialist shared that the meteorological phenomenon known as “El Niño,” which has the potential to trigger extreme weather events worldwide, began forming this year. This alteration of patterns initially led to the expectation of significantly below-average rainfall in the Banderas Bay region, particularly in June and July, and this prediction indeed came true.

Cornejo López added that the months of August and September were predicted to bring more rainfall than usual, with rainy conditions continuing into October and November. For now, the August forecast appears to be holding true.

Furthermore, Cornejo López highlighted the ongoing high level of activity in both the Pacific and Caribbean seas. While a low-pressure system that threatened to evolve into a cyclone last week ultimately did not, it was responsible for the recent rains in western states.

As Puerto Vallarta experiences a wetter than anticipated August, residents are advised to stay informed about changing weather patterns and prepare accordingly. With the ongoing active ocean conditions, staying updated on forecasts and following safety guidelines is crucial to ensuring everyone’s wellbeing.
