Mexico City – During his Tuesday morning press conference, the President of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, announced a series of investments with private and public resources that are being made in the State of Nayarit and the city of Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco.
He mentioned three sections of the highway from Vallarta to Tepic, two sections being constructed by Carlos Slim’s company Ideal, two sections of road being built by Mota-Engil Engineering and Construction, and other works on roads to the Sierra de Nayarit financed by public funds.
He also gave details about the construction of a naval base that is being built in Las Varas, Nayarit in what is known as Boca de Chila.
For this complex, the state government had 80 hectares on a beach, about halfway between Vallarta and Tepic.
“We were going to sell the land, but it was decided that the federation would buy it from the state government, this because it had to make payments to workers. The 80 hectares were acquired, that land was delivered to the Secretary of the Navy. More than a billion pesos are being invested, it is a naval base, a dock, and a beautiful beach. There is also going to be a hotel. And it is a public beach, because what we also want is for people to be able to enjoy the beaches, so that the beaches in Mexico do not continue to be privatized,” he explained.
He also mentioned that with the highways that are going to be inaugurated in December of next year, it will take 40-45 minutes to drive from Tepic to Boca de Chila, and one hour from Vallarta to Boca de Chila. “From Guadalajara to Vallarta will take two and a half hours. So, it’s all important tourist infrastructure,” he stressed.
He mentioned that the port of San Blas, in Tepic, is also being rehabilitated.
“And from Boca de Chila and San Blas you will be able to go to the Marías Islands, where, in two or three months all of the houses that will allow visitors to stay on La Isla Madre will be finished. The closest [island] to Boca de Chila is la Isla Cleofas. It will be possible to get there by boat in two hours, because we are already buying, we have already acquired, three ferries to go from Mazatlán, San Blas, Boca de Chila and Puerto Vallarta to the Marías Islands,” he said.
He added that there is also foreign investment, since near Boca de Chila there is a hotel that they have just built, which is one of the most luxurious hotels in Mexico.
