Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – On Saturday, November 30, Unidos por las Guacamayas A.C. will host the Second Green Macaw Festival at the Boca de Tomatlán Boardwalk from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm. This event invites residents of Boca de Tomatlán and surrounding communities to celebrate and learn about the conservation of the Green Macaw, a species threatened with extinction.
The festival will feature engaging activities for all ages, including arts and crafts stations, a regional photography exhibition, storytelling sessions, and a raffle. Attendees will also find informational booths that showcase environmental projects crucial to preserving the unique flora and fauna of the region. The event offers a blend of educational and entertaining experiences, encouraging the community to connect with nature and understand the importance of local conservation efforts.
Unidos por las Guacamayas A.C. is dedicated to safeguarding the endangered Green Macaw, or Ara militaris, through initiatives aimed at curbing illegal trafficking and protecting the macaw’s essential habitat. Their efforts benefit not only the Green Macaw but also the numerous plant and animal species that share its environment – species vital for maintaining a balanced ecosystem.
The nonprofit organization hopes to inspire sustainable resource use, promoting a dignified livelihood for landowners while fostering a community-wide commitment to conservation.
Since 2007, Unidos por las Guacamayas has conducted extensive research to support the survival of Green Macaw populations in the greater Bsanderas Bay region. By monitoring nesting success, tracking migration routes, identifying feeding areas, and assessing environmental challenges, they work to gather essential data to guide preservation efforts. The group also collaborates with Defenders of Wildlife Mexico, securing protection for one of the largest breeding sites ever discovered for the Green Macaw.
The Green Macaw Festival on November 30 is a chance for the community to support conservation, enjoy a day of family activities, and celebrate the natural beauty of Boca de Tomatlán. This gathering serves as a reminder of the collective responsibility to protect local wildlife and ensure a sustainable future.
