US Extends Travel Restrictions at Canada, Mexico Borders

The U.S. borders with Mexico and Canada will remain closed to non-essential travel through October 21, White House COVID-19 coordinator Jeff Zients told reporters Monday. Zients said nearly all foreign nationals traveling to the US by air will need to show proof of COVID-19 vaccination starting in early November.

Mexico Tourism Spending Increased This Summer

While the overall number of tourists arriving in Mexico this summer was down compared to pre-pandemic levels, the amount spent by travelers totaled $2.12 billion in July, which was a 6.5 percent increase compared to the $1.99 billion spent by international arrivals during the same month in 2019.

FIFA Reduces Penalty on Mexico for Anti-Gay Chants at Games

The world soccer body has agreed to reduce Mexico's punishment for anti-gay chants heard during the Olympic qualifying matches in March, Mexican soccer officials said. The Mexican soccer federation said it had been notified by FIFA that Mexico's men team will have to play only one game without fans, instead of two as was originally imposed.
