Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico – The municipal government of Puerto Vallarta is continuing to expand its public works capabilities by adding four new collection trucks to its local fleet. These vehicles were purchased using funds from the Federal Maritime-Terrestrial Zone (Zofemat), representing a strategic investment in the city’s infrastructure following the recent shift to municipal-led waste management.
During a recent update, Mayor Luis Munguía highlighted that these new units significantly boost the city’s total operational capacity. The addition brings the fleet to 36 trucks, combining city-owned vehicles with those currently being leased during this transition period. This growth allows for broader coverage and more consistent service across the municipality’s diverse neighborhoods and districts.
By managing the service directly rather than through a private concession, the City Council now maintains a higher level of flexibility. This change enables municipal departments, such as Public Services and Citizen Participation, to respond more quickly to resident reports and coordinate directly with local communities.
The expansion of the fleet is a key part of the city’s goal to establish a more dependable and accessible trash collection system. With increased resources and direct oversight, Puerto Vallarta aims to provide a streamlined service that remains highly responsive to the needs of the public.
