Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – Last week, the University of Guadalajara, led by Rector Dr. Ricardo Villanueva Lomelí, and Puerto Vallarta’s newly elected Mayor Luis Munguía, visited the Gastronomy School Market. This exciting new project aims to bridge the gap between academic learning and tourism, offering a unique culinary experience to both locals and visitors.
Located within the Gourmet Station at Centro Universitario de la Costa (CUCosta), the market will showcase traditional Mexican dishes while providing a hands-on learning experience for students in the Bachelor of Science and Culinary Arts program. Chef Luis del Sordo, program coordinator, explained that the market is expected to be fully operational within the next 40 days.
Rector Villanueva Lomelí emphasized the importance of such business units for both tourism and student development. Mayor Munguía expressed his full support for the project, promising to facilitate necessary procedures for its operation and promotion once he takes office.
Beyond traditional cuisine, the market will also feature a wine management section, offering new opportunities for young people in the local market. Professor Luis del Sordo expressed his enthusiasm for this long-awaited project, which has been in the works for years.
The market will offer a diverse selection of foods from across Mexico, including the possibility of tequila, craft beer, and raicilla. It will also serve as a valuable work opportunity for students, offering both morning and afternoon classes.
The Gastronomy School Market is set to fill a void in the local market by providing affordable and delicious food options for both residents and tourists. With a dedicated playroom for children, the market aims to create a family-friendly atmosphere.
