First National Tourists of the Summer Arrive in Vallarta

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – Last weekend saw the arrival of the first summer vacationers to the Banderas Bay region, which increased hotel occupancy by at least five percent.

Arrivals at the Puerto Vallarta International Airport started picking up on Friday afternoon, and Saturday and Sunday saw full domestic flights, according to airport personnel.

Travelers, mostly families with children, came to enjoy the first days of this vacation period, now that many students in Jalisco have finished their studies, given that the 2021-2022 school year ended early in cities throughout the state.

Puerto Vallarta is this summer’s preferred Pacific destination and it is expected to achieve an average occupancy rate of 71.2 percent, above Los Cabos with 67.3% and Mazatlan with 65%.

Tourists from Guadalajara have been the first to arrive, coming from its metropolitan area as well as from other cities in the state. Many of them are staying at rental or Airbnb properties, even so, the positive impact on the hotel industry is significant.

For the 2022 summer vacation period, which includes the months of July and August, it is estimated that a total of 51,765,000 national and foreign tourists will travel through the national territory, according to the Mexico Ministry of Tourism (Sectur).

He indicated that of the tourists who will stay at hotels, 17,391,000 will be national tourists, which represents 78 percent of the total, and 4,899,000 will be foreigners, or 22% of visitors.

In addition, it is expected that another 26,748,000 national tourists and 2,726,000 international tourists will stay in another type of accommodation, such as with family and friends or in their second homes. He highlighted that 9.1% of tourists, both domestic and foreign, are expected to stay in shared economy accommodations.

Summer lodging revenues are expected to reach 59,930,000 pesos, which together with other tourist services will reach a total tourist consumption of 649,250,000 pesos.
