Jalisco Leads Mexico in Innovation with 242 Patent Applications

Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico – Jalisco has solidified its position as a powerhouse of innovation in Mexico, achieving a remarkable first-place ranking nationwide in patent applications for 2024.

The Mexican Institute of Industrial Property (IMPI) reports that Jalisco secured an impressive 242 patent registrations, a significant 44.9 percent surge from the previous year. This accomplishment represents over 20 percent of all patent applications submitted across the country.

Beyond just applications, Jalisco also demonstrated its inventive spirit by contributing nearly 19 percent of all registered inventions nationwide. Of the 2,830 total registrations, 535 originated in Jalisco, showcasing the state’s dedication to developing new technologies and solutions. This impressive output placed Jalisco ahead of other major contenders, including Mexico City, Guanajuato, Nuevo León, and the State of Mexico.

Looking at the bigger picture, Jalisco’s contributions to national innovation are clear. Over the six-year period from 2019 to 2024, the state generated 1,244 patent applications, accounting for almost 19 percent of the national total. This consistent performance has placed Jalisco among the top two states for patent applications for the past nine years, securing the top spot in both 2021 and now 2024.
